RV Park Near Shiner, TX

Shiner is about 20 miles northwest of River Acres and has built a national reputation out of a town of just 2,000 people. Home to Texas’s oldest independent brewery and a surprisingly rich Czech and German heritage, it’s one of those small Texas towns that people drive hours to visit — and you’re already practically next door.

K. Spoetzl Brewery & Distillery

The Spoetzl Brewery has been brewing Shiner Bock in this little town since 1909, and a visit here is as much a history lesson as it is a good time. The brewery offers guided tours every half hour starting at 11am, walking you through the full production process from grain to glass. Admission includes complimentary pours of Shiner beer. They’ve recently added a full distillery operation producing vodka, gin, and moonshine, with separate distillery tours available. Reservations are strongly encouraged as tours fill up fast, especially on weekends.

K. Spoetzl BBQ Co.

Right on the brewery grounds, K. Spoetzl BBQ Co. is the perfect way to cap off your tour without going far. The cafeteria-style counter serves up brisket, sausage, and pulled pork weighed to order, with classic sides like potato salad, coleslaw, and beans. Grab a tray, find a picnic table under the oaks, and wash it all down with whatever’s on tap. It’s straightforward Texas BBQ done well, in one of the best settings you’ll find for an outdoor lunch in Lavaca County.

Edwin Wolters Memorial Museum

Tucked into a historic home in downtown Shiner, the Edwin Wolters Memorial Museum houses the lifelong collection of a prominent local businessman who began collecting as a young boy. After his death in 1962, his daughter donated the home and its entire contents to the city. The collection spans farm equipment, household items, Native American artifacts, and local memorabilia that paint a vivid picture of life in Lavaca County over the past century. Admission is free and the volunteers who run it are a wealth of local knowledge.
