The River Walk (Paseo del Rio)

The River Walk is San Antonio’s most visited attraction for good reason. It’s a beautiful stretch of the San Antonio River winding through the heart of downtown, lined with restaurants, bars, hotels, and outdoor cafes shaded by massive cypress trees. It connects major landmarks including the San Antonio Museum of Art and Brackenridge Park. The stretch through the Museum Reach to the north is quieter and more scenic, while the Commerce Street area near the Alamo is a bit more lively.

The Pearl District

The Pearl started as a brewery in 1883 and has been reimagined into one of the most compelling mixed-use districts in Texas. The campus is home to the San Antonio campus of the Culinary Institute of America, dozens of independently owned restaurants and bars, local boutiques, and the beloved Hotel Emma built around the original 19th-century brew house. The weekend farmers market draws locals and visitors alike and is one of the best in the state. Jazz TX, a live music club tucked into the basement of the Bottling Department, runs several shows a week ranging from big bands to salsa nights.

The Alamo

No trip to San Antonio is complete without a stop at the Alamo. The site of the 1836 battle that became the defining moment of the Texas Revolution, the Alamo sits right in the heart of downtown San Antonio and is one of the most visited historic landmarks in the United States. The grounds include the iconic chapel, the Long Barrack Museum, and a series of exhibits that walk through the full history of the battle and the people who fought it. Admission to the chapel and grounds is free, and the Alamo’s location makes it an easy anchor for a full afternoon of downtown exploration.
